The cold winter is far behind us and spring is slowly driven away by the warm sun. May and June are the beginning of the summer flower season, but these months are especially well known for the wonderful peonies that grow in abundance.

These beautiful flowers are available in many different colors and shapes. Some of them are beautifully filled, others have single petals. The Peony is a symbol of love, luck and health and are therefore very popular at weddings, in bouquets or decorations. But also in a vase at home, this seasonal flower can brighten your day. With just a few flowers you can easily fill a vase.

FloraPodium visited the brothers Koen and Joost Groot, who have taken over the company from their father and now run it together. Originally the brothers were lily growers, but in 2015 they switched to the cultivation of peonies.

They produce the peonies in Italy, France and The Netherlands. Because of this they have built a wide international network and have been able to prolong the peony season. In The Netherlands the cultivation season is relatively short; only in May and June. They produce about 30 different varieties currently.

The brothers value the importance of top quality. They aim at producing the best and most exclusive products. That’s also why they have the best sorting process available. Normally peonies are sold in a bunch in different stages, with some flowers riper than the others. You may often see a difference in size of the flower bud. The grading system at Groot & Groot ensures accurate sorting, so that only uniform batches are created. Every market has different demands and Groot & Groot respond to that. Thanks to this sorting system, they can perfectly adapt the different bunches to the customer's needs and wishes!
